Head Coach: Earnest Wilson

Coach Earnest Wilson brings 30+ years of football coaching experience to MLFB. Prior to becoming a head coach with MLFB he had head coaching jobs at multiple levels. He spent four years as a head coach in various arena leagues where he reached the playoffs three of those years.

From 2010 to 2012 he was the offensive coordinator for Jackson State where they finished 12th in total offense in 2010 and 1st in 2011 at the FCS level. In 2012 he was the offensive coordinator at Hampton before being hired as the head coach at the growing FCS program Savannah State.

While at Savannah State, Wilson was responsible for building up an emerging FCS program that had little infrastructure when he arrived. After his arrival, Wilson was responsible for expanding the program’s impact in the community, establishing facilities, and developing its brand.

After three seasons at Savannah State, Wilson moved on to being the head coach of the Division II program Elizabeth City State in North Carolina in 2016. At Elizabeth City, Wilson implemented his style of the Air Raid offense and had continued success with their historic program. While at Elizabeth, his teams pulled off upsets of traditional rivals several times.

Most recently Wilson was the head coach at Defiance College in Ohio for the 2021 season. While there he was thrust into a last-second promotion and helped the team to find a positive direction. This included an upset win over the 2nd ranked team in their conference.

Throughout his career, Wilson has been known for prolific offenses and has worked with a wide range of Hall of Fame and championship-caliber coaches including Tony Dungy, Dennis Green, Hal Mumme, and Ted Marchibroda. He was an early adopter of the Air Raid system of offenses but has created a unique hybrid system that also prominently involves tight ends and backs. He has also coached numerous players who have gone on to succeed at various levels of professional football. His players and colleagues all hold him in the highest regard and are excited to watch Coach Wilson succeed at the professional level.

Coach Wilson brings a teaching mentality and an explosive offense that players love to play in and has developed talent at every level he has coached at.

Coach Wilson on why MLFB, “ I really like the idea that they are selling that we are truly a development league, and I love the opportunity to coach against some really good coaches.“
