After his playing days with Atlanta Falcons ended, Ted Cottrell started his coaching career at Rutgers University. He would spend nine years on campus before his 3-4 defensive innovations would land him his first NFL job with the Kansas City Chiefs as their new linebackers coach. He parlayed that success in Kansas City as a position coach to become a defensive coordinator for the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills.
During his coaching career, Coach Cottrell was a master technician in developing football players at every position on the defensive side of the ball. Under his guidance, many of his defensive students developed into All-Pro performers and outstanding human beings. As one of the great technicians and tacticians in the NFL, Cottrell brings an endless energy to Major League Football.
